Join BCM and Brooklyn-based Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation as we mark our 14th annual Kwanzaa celebration together at the largest family Kwanzaa event in NYC! Explore Kwanzaa’s seven principles throughout the week with vibrant performances, workshops, art projects, and celebratory cuisine each day.

Monday, December 27: Kujichagulia
Theme: The Beat of Kwanzaa

Join us as we spread the spirit of Kwanzaa, the spirit of the drums. This program includes a Djembe drum class, interactive drum circle, traditional African American rhythms, pottery workshop, and contribute to our community mural.


10:30am – 11:00am: Djembe drum and rhythm class

11:00am – 11:30am: Djembe drum and rhythm class

12:00pm – 12:25pm: Kwanzaa performance featuring the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music

10:30am – 12:45pm: ColorLab art workshop – Unity Cups and community mural (drop-in program)

All visitors ages 5 and older are asked to present proof that they have had at least one dose of a valid COVID-19 vaccine. Effective December 27, 2021, visitors ages 12 and older will be required to provide proof of at least two COVID-19 vaccine doses, along with photo ID. Click here to learn more.

All visitors three years old and older must wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth while inside the Museum. If you are asked multiple times to adhere to the mask policy, you may be asked to leave the Museum for the health and safety of all.

By purchasing a ticket, you agree to abide by all Visitor Guidelines and any additional safety protocols that may be in effect upon your arrival.

We currently provide free or discounted Play Session tickets to Association of Children’s Museums, Association of Science and Technology Centers, Cool Culture, Culture Pass, EBT/SNAP card holders, healthcare workers, NYPD, FDNY, military families, teachers, corporate members and several other partners. To book tickets under these programs and partnerships, please visit BCM in person and we will provide you tickets for that day or for a future date. We reserve a block of tickets for these partners to ensure there will always be access for our partners.
